Merryvale

The Merryvale   story begins with the founding of Sunnyhill Winery in 1933. Ownership of this historic winemaking   facility changed several times in the early years, as did the name; first to   Sunny St. Helena, then to Merryvale in 1991. The Schlatter family became the sole owners of Merryvale in 1996,   focused on the tenet that great wines are born in the vineyard.

The process for selecting vineyards that are worthy of the Merryvale Vineyard label is intense, rigorous, and exacting. Careful attention is paid to microclimate, soils and sustainable vineyard management practices. Sites with unique aspects and characteristics coupled with our estate vineyard sources allow us to create rich, balanced and truly expressive Napa Valley wines. The commitment involved in growing grapes for Merryvale — specified by vineyard blocks or even row-by-row selections — result in wines with intense flavors and soft, supple tannin structure

Winemaker: Simon Faury’s early years were divided between Lyon, Champagne and the Alps. Growing up in France, especially the Rhône Valley, gave him access to some of the world’s greatest wines.

In 2002, at the age of 17, a tasting of Côte Rôtie and Condrieu inspired Simon to pursue a career in the wine industry. Simon studied Agronomy and Viticulture in Turin, Italy before earning his Winemaking Masters in Bordeaux. After school he traveled extensively, working in some of the world’s most prestigious wine regions including Barbaresco, Barolo, Bordeaux (Domaine de Chevalier, Château Pichon Longueville) and Mendoza (Bodega Michael Rolland).
